Thick bully sticks: for dogs who chew hard

Thick sticks (25–29 g at 6 inches, 50–59 g at 12 inches) are denser, so moderate and strong chewers take longer to get through them and are less likely to break off large pieces.

They are our most popular choice for Labradors, Golden Retrievers and Boxers. For the very strongest jaws, step up to jumbo or braided.

Which bully stick is right for your dog?

Pick by your dog's weight first, then by how hard they chew. When in doubt, size up — a stick that is too small can become a choking hazard.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best bully stick for a large dog?

For dogs over 25 kg, pick a 12-inch thick, jumbo or braided stick. Thickness matters more than length: a thicker stick is slower to chew and harder to swallow in large pieces.

How long does a bully stick last?

It depends on thickness and your dog. In our testing, a 6-inch thin stick lasts a small dog about 10–20 minutes, while a 12-inch braided stick can keep a large dog busy for 90 minutes or more across several sessions. See the comparison table on each product page.

How many bully sticks can my dog have per day?

Treats should make up no more than 10% of your dog's daily calories. Each product page lists the approximate calories per stick; for most dogs that means one stick a day, or part of a larger stick. Ask your vet if your dog is on a weight-loss plan.

When should I take the bully stick away?

Remove it when about 5 cm (2 in) is left, or as soon as it is small enough for your dog to swallow whole. A bully stick holder lets your dog finish more of the stick safely.
